A blank row is not a neutral result

Suppose a hypothetical decision journal contains detailed records for quiet mornings but almost none for hurried sessions. The completed entries cannot explain what happened on the missing days. Before interpreting a pattern, ask which opportunities to observe were recorded and which disappeared. This is a methodological question for an NSI research proposal, not evidence of a discovered relationship between physiology and trading performance. The framework still requires independent validation. [1]

Define four different absences

A useful record distinguishes a session with no eligible signal, an eligible signal without a trade, a trade with incomplete observations and an observation that was never collected. These categories are proposed bookkeeping rules, not validated NSI measurements. They prevent a later reviewer from treating every blank as “nothing happened.” For example, a missing pre-trade reflection cannot be recreated faithfully by asking how the trader remembers feeling after the outcome is known.

Set the handling rule before the review

Specify when a record is eligible and how incomplete records will be reported. Preserve the original data and flag exclusions rather than quietly deleting them. The prospective observation plan is the companion discipline: define the test before examining the result. If a new rule becomes necessary after inspection, label the change and explain its reason. A clear audit trail makes the interpretation reviewable; it does not remove all bias or establish causality.

Report the denominator alongside the story

A hypothetical report might state that 30 sessions were planned, 24 had complete records and six were incomplete, with the reasons listed where known. Do not invent the missing results or assume that they resemble the available ones. Separate personal and market state within the completed records as well. The Gold Nervous System Indicator is the related book for exploring the proposed concepts. The next research step is a transparent collection protocol, not a performance claim extracted from an attractive subset.
